A gig is a light, one horse, two wheeled carriage for two or three people. This gig was built in Woodville, New Zealand, in 1910 and was presented to the Coach House Museum by Adam Beattie.
The unusual feature of this gig is the lack of protection from mud being thrown up from the road surface. It has no sides and only short tenders.
The Dennett system has a transverse leaf spring mounted on the rear ends of the longitudinal leaf springs. Dennett springing and a sliding seat, were very common features to help provide a more comfortable ride.
