As its contribution to the WW1 Commemoration Project, in 2015 Feilding & District Community Archive created ‘A Silent Tribute to Those Who Served’.
Most servicemen had a formal photograph taken before leaving NZ. We searched in our collections, and circulated a request in Feilding & Manawatu District for photos of our local WW1 soldiers. We received a great response.
This is not a memorial for those who did not return, it is recognition of those who served.
After research was completed we were able to include the name, rank, serial number and regiment of all those people that we received photographs of.
This silent tribute was created in video format, which we normally play each year for ANZAC in the theatre of the Coach House Museum.
Often people who see it hunt out a photo of their relative and bring them in to us to add to our tribute.
You are welcome to email your photograph and any details to include for future years.
